Axel Meise

German entrepreneur and designer, born on November 13, 1962, in Düsseldorf. As a teenager he built lamps for his own use. In the early 1980s, while studying mechanical engineering, he designed his first commercial luminaires. He left his studies to make this his career and founded his first company, “Axel Meise Licht.”

In 1999 he founded Occhio, a design lighting brand based in Munich, where he is chief designer. The company leads the designer-lighting market in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He is known for modular lighting systems such as the Sento series. When incandescent and halogen bulbs were banned, he moved the brand to LED technology and set up his own electronics department for it. In 2010 he launched the Più system. Occhio celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024.
